Western Alaska/Arctic Region Barge Service

Seasonal service (from April through October)

Ice forms in the Bering Sea and along the coast of Western Alaska in October each year, and marine navigation to these communities is impossible for much of the year. Consequently, supplying major construction projects as well as shipment of general commodities to these towns must be completed during the short summer window. With our barge service to Western Alaska and the Arctic Region, we call on the major hub ports of Naknek, Dillingham, Nome, Bethel, and Kotzebue, and more than 65 small villages. Freight consisting of building and construction materials, heavy equipment and vehicles, grocery items, and fishing supplies are delivered to help communities prepare.

We have established ourselves as the preeminent supply line for Western Alaska’s fisheries. For a few weeks each year, Bristol Bay is home to one of the largest salmon fisheries in the world and Alaska Marine Lines is at the heart of this frantic ‘round-the-clock’ harvest. Virtually everything the industry needs arrives on our barges. And a major share of the catch makes its first journey toward world markets the same way.

Alaska Marine Lines provides service to Arctic locations such as Point Hope, Point Lay, Wainwright, Utqiagvik (Barrow), Prudhoe Bay, and Kaktovik. As part of the Lynden family of companies, we offer unique multi-modal logistics solutions in this region including Hercules aircraft with remote landing capabilities, PistenBully snowcats to deliver freight or tow heavy haul loads, and tundra-sensitive Rolligons.

Every shipment includes Lynden’s free online EZ Commerce system for tracking, tracing and reporting as well as other helpful online tools.
