Alaska West Express is one of very few trucking companies in the nation to be accepted into the Safe Driver Apprenticeship Program through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The program is now up and running, and the company is looking for candidates ages 18 – 20 to join the apprenticeship program.

The three-year apprenticeship offers an exciting and unique opportunity for those just starting down the career path after high school. Learn from the ground up by operating multiple types of equipment, acquiring basic maintenance skills and completing other training needed to earn a Department of Labor Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion.

Our Safe Driver Apprenticeship Program will prepare participants for a rewarding career in the transportation industry. Apprentices will start out attending our new hire orientation program and then begin training while they work with our yard team. During this phase of the program the apprentice will begin operating trucks, forklifts, skid steers, mobile conveyors, and a front-end loader. Our professional driver trainers will work with the apprentice on completing driving school, and all of the required training components, so that they can obtain their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Once the apprentice obtains their CDL, they will spend one-on-one time with their mentors developing safe driving habits and techniques, all while being paid to learn! All apprentices will have assigned mentors and will learn about the Lynden family of companies. Once the apprenticeship is completed, you will be ready to move into the driver’s seat in Fairbanks or in other locations where Lynden does business.
