Lynden Training Center Company Overview

In 1995, Alaska West Express established the Lynden Training Center as a hazmat training facility founded on the concept that students learn best through hands-on activity. Today, it is the only facility in Alaska offering hazardous materials training for transportation and emergency response combining classroom instruction with real-life experience.

We provide hazardous materials training in transportation, emergency response, workplace safety, hazardous waste operations, and equipment operations. Courses follow current general safety and industrial hygiene practices to increase knowledge and awareness. Our professional instructors, comprehensive training programs, extensive training props, and facilities meet or exceed the requirements of both state and federal regulations enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT). We also follow non-mandatory standards established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).

Our emphasis on safety, health, emergency management and emergency action, and response procedures result in decreased work-related injuries and illnesses for your organization or company. Increased awareness of health and safety issues are achieved through instruction on the proper use of personal protective equipment, procedures, available resources, industry best practices, and the containment and control of potentially hazardous incidents.

The Fairbanks training facility includes a railroad and a variety of rolling stock, including a specially designed roll-over MC306 tanker built by Alaska West Express configured to offer a multitude of possible training configurations. We also provide MC307, MC312, intermodal tanks, intermediate tank, and 50- and 30-gallon tanks as training props. Our large truck turnaround area accommodates a variety of highway tank trucks for viewing and/or inspection, and our confined space rescue module has several different configurations which can be adapted to the students’ needs based on their job duties and facility exposures.

Student safety is of paramount importance during our training programs. Instructors are on scene at all times to coach students’ efforts and to prevent any unsafe work practices or situations.
