Project Details: This project consisted of paving 1.6 miles of Ballyhoo Road, adjoining sections of neighboring roads, city docks, and an airport parking area. The paving included the placement of approximately 13,000 tons of asphalt pavement, placement of 16,000 tons of crushed aggregate base course, installation of roadway lighting, new storm drain culverts, catch basins and manholes, as well as new road signs and striping. Ballyhoo Road is a part of the main thoroughfare for heavy truck traffic in Unalaska. Trucking is a key part of transporting seafood which is the main economy in Unalaska. This project turned a gravel road that needed constant maintenance to a paved road with a 6” thick template of hot mix asphalt. With the help of extensive quality control throughout the project, Knik constructed a road that will be utilized for years to come.
