Knik Construction is a general heavy construction company specializing in remote-site projects. Knik’s experience includes heavy construction, road building, asphalt paving, foamed asphalt treated bases, airport construction and reconstruction, excavation, crushing and transportation of gravel products.

Knik has developed a particular strength – a niche and main focus – in conducting jobs that require mobilization by barge and logistical management techniques. These strengths have served a base that includes government and private sector organizations throughout Alaska, the South Pacific, and Caribbean.

Knik’s major concentration of work is in Western Alaska, and the majority of this work has taken place under adverse weather conditions at remote locations. Knik Construction can work year-round in the arctic elements, carefully scheduling the best season and equipment for each phase of the project. At times that means moving materials via waterways in summer and performing work in winter. Often it means constructing ice roads to transport workers and equipment.

Each year, Knik transports approximately 50,000 tons of crushed aggregate material by tug and barge to remote sites in Western Alaska. Our fleet of ocean-going and shallow-draft tugs, barges and landing craft offers effective materials and equipment transport to most any maritime destination, while our low-ground-pressure, off-road vehicles are engineered to carry heavy loads across tundra without damaging the environment.
