SUMMARY

Performs all aspects of operations relating to releasing flights, updating flight information, and determining cancellations or amendments of domestic and international flights.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

  1. Ensures compliance with Company and governmental rules and regulations prior to releasing a flight.
  2. Familiar with the reported and forecasted weather for each route to be flown and airport to be used.
  3. Provides weather and airport information to each Pilot in Control (PIC) along with all available current reports on airport conditions and irregularities of navigation facilities that may affect the safety of the flight.
  4. When possible during the flight, provides the PIC with additional information, including weather facilities, and services which may affect the safety of the flight; aids the Captain in determining if the cancellation or amendment of flight release is necessary, or if the flight can operate or continue to operate safely as planned or released.
  5. Arranges for over-flight permits, visas, landing/parking permits, fuel and ground handling at both domestic and international destinations.
  6. Works independently with considerable latitude for unreviewed actions and decisions. 
  7. Reports matters related to safety of flights to appropriate supervisory personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE                                          

One year certificate from college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training, with experience in international operations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS                                               

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS                                                

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY                                           

Ability to use common sense and sound judgment to deal with situations and multiple problems that occur simultaneously in a highly controlled and regulated environment.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or scheduled form. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS  

FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES                                                 

Ability to demonstrate a practical knowledge of computer and computer software, including MS Word and Excel.
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including printers, copiers, and fax machines.
Familiar with Minimum Equipment List on Company aircraft, performance characteristics, and weight and balance.
Knowledge of flight operations systems software.
Ability to handle VHF radio microphones, telephones, and to complete forms and other documents.
Multilingual abilities highly desirable.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, nights or holidays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS                                            

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT                                                    

 The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  The daytime temperatures can be hot during the summer months.

COMMENTS
