St. Paul Airport Pavement

Location: St. Paul, Alaska

Project Date: 2005

Owner: State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities

Contract Amount: $11,744,650

Status: Complete

Project Details: The St. Paul project included 15 of foamed asphalt treated base on the runway, taxiway and apron and 34,000 tons of hot mix asphalt (HMA) to pave the runway, taxiway and apron. An existing quarry site was used by Knik to set up their rock crushing plant and crush over 40,000 tons of aggregate for the project. Temporary runway lighting was required so airplanes could land on half the runway while reconditioning work on the other half was complete. The paving was done at night so that air traffic was not affected.
