Project Details: Knik was a prime contractor on the Nightmute Airport Improvements job. Nighmute, a Yup’ik village of over 200 residents is located on Nelson Island in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Region of Western Alaska. The project consisted of expanding the Nightmute Airport runway from 50 feet by 1600 feet to 75 feet by 3200 feet and expanding the safety area from 100 feet by 2000 feet to 120 feet by 3680 feet on a 150-foot by 3759-foot embankment. The taxiway and apron were also expanded. Additional work involved reconstructing the airport access road, extending the power from Nightmute to the airport and installing medium intensity runway and taxiway lighting and wind cones.
