Cargo Claim Information

Our goal at Brown Line, LLC, is to handle your shipment in such a way that you never need to submit a claim. However, if an unfortunate circumstance would require a cargo claim be filed, it will be processed in a prompt and a courteous manner.

Please review the information presented here, then contact the service center if a claim needs to be filed. They will be happy to assist you in this process.

All shipments and cargo claims are governed by law and unless part of a negotiated contract, are subject to the Terms and Conditions on the Brown Line Bill of Lading, and our published tariffs. Notification of damage or intent to claim must be received by Brown Line LLC within fifteen days of delivery, in writing or by email, for a claim to be considered. Once notification has been made and you have received a claim form, please complete and return it to them along with all the required supporting documents listed on the form to present your claim. If you are including photos, please email or mail your claim, as faxing renders most photos unusable.

Within 30 days from our receipt of your claim, we will acknowledge it in writing or by email and provide you with a claim file number, or we will provide payment to settle and conclude your claim. IMPORTANT: Please note that all freight charges for a shipment being claimed must be paid in full before we can process your claim for settlement.

For claims exceeding $1,000 in value, an inspection of the damaged goods and packaging must be arranged for by Brown Line, LLC, or their representative. This inspection must be done as soon as possible after the damage is discovered and before any packaging materials or damaged goods are removed or disposed of. This is an important part of the claim process and if not done your claim will most likely be declined. Note: If your claim is expected to be less than $1,000, this inspection can be waived.
