Lynden Transport was the first Alaska-based transportation company to join SmartWay in 2008 followed by Lynden companies Milky Way, LTI, Inc. and Brown Line in 2010.
The SmartWay Transport Partnership is a collaboration between the U.S. EPA and transportation companies to voluntarily improve fuel efficiency and reduce air pollution from freight transport.
In 2013 and 2014, LTI, Inc. and its Milky Way division were honored with a SmartWay Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA awards recognize the top one percent of SmartWay partners for superior environmental performance and leadership. LTI, Inc. earned a top score in the Tanker Fleet Category based on its exceptional fuel economy, payload, idle time and emissions equipment.
Lynden earned the Green Star Award for environmental stewardship in Alaska in 2009. Green Star recognizes businesses that practice waste reduction, energy conservation and pollution prevention.
The Lynden family of companies was named to Inbound Logistics' Green Supply Chain Partners list for its commitment to the environment. The list appears in the June 2015 issue of Inbound Logistics magazine.

Alaska West Express earned was named the safest fleet by the Alaska Trucking Association for its outstanding safety performance in 2010, including accident rates, driver training, and safety programs and vehicle maintenance.
